Whereabouts works as a real app — full-screen, no browser bars, an icon on your home screen. The how depends on your device.
iPhone · iPad
In Safari
Apple doesn’t let websites trigger an install button. You add it from Safari’s share menu.
- 01Open whereabouts.is in Safari(not Chrome — Chrome on iOS can’t install).
- 02Tap the Sharebutton. It’s the square with an arrow pointing up, in the bottom toolbar.
- 03Scroll down in the share sheet and tap Add to Home Screen.
- 04Confirm the name (default is fine) and tap Add. The icon appears on your home screen.
Android
In Chrome
Android usually offers an install banner automatically. If it doesn’t:
- 01Open whereabouts.is in Chrome.
- 02Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right of Chrome.
- 03Tap Install app or Add to Home screen.
Mac · Windows · Linux
In Chrome or Edge
Look in the address bar. On a site that’s installable, a small install icon (a monitor with an arrow) appears at the right end of the bar. Click it and confirm.
Safari on macOS doesn’t support installing web apps. Use Chrome or Edge instead.
